Quick help

Restore purchases

Already purchased a tour? Restore it from inside the app: tap your avatar → Restore Purchases. This uses your Apple ID to recover any tours you've bought.

Tour unavailable?

Some tours may be temporarily unavailable due to maintenance or content updates. Try again later, or contact support if the issue persists for more than a day.

Download not working?

Make sure you're on Wi-Fi and stay on the tour screen until the download finishes. If it still fails, try closing and reopening the app, then download again.

💡 Once downloaded, tours work completely offline — even in Big Sur's dead zones. No signal needed.

Before you go

Mount your phone

Use a dashboard or vent mount where you can glance at the screen safely. The app keeps the screen on during a tour so you don't have to wake it.

Turn up the volume

Set car audio volume comfortably high before starting. Narration plays through your car's speakers via Bluetooth or AUX, and it's easier to lower than to raise mid-stop.

Use CarPlay if you have it

Turns supports CarPlay for hands-free listening. Plug in or pair, and the tour will surface in your car's display with playback controls — keep your eyes on the road.

📱 Tip: Set "Do Not Disturb While Driving" to Manual or Automatic in iPhone Settings → Focus. Notifications won't interrupt narration.

How Turns works

Before your drive

Browse tours, purchase one you like, and download it over Wi-Fi. Everything — audio, images, tour data — downloads in one go so it works offline.

During your drive

Start the tour and drive. Narration plays automatically as you reach each stop — no buttons to press. When you first open Turns you choose how it sounds: Turns' own soft instrumental soundtrack under the whole drive (lowered while the narration speaks), or your own audio.

Prefer your own music? Choose your own audio (or turn off Background music in Settings any time). Then Turns plays none of its own — your music lowers during each narration and comes back to full afterward, and podcasts or audiobooks pause; most pick back up on their own.

Start anywhere

No fixed starting point. Drive the route forwards, backwards, or pick up at any stop. The app figures out where you are and plays the right story.

🎵 Tip: Want to drive to your own music? Turn off Background music in Settings, start your audio, then launch the tour — Turns lowers it during narration and brings it back automatically.

Your audio & Turns — FAQ

Can I listen to my own music during a tour?

Yes. Turn off Background music in Settings and play whatever you like. Your music lowers while a narration plays and comes back to full volume right after.

Why does my podcast pause but my music just gets quieter?

That's iOS deciding what's best for each kind of audio: talking over talking doesn't work, so spoken audio pauses, while music simply lowers under the narration. Turns can't choose this per app — the treatment comes from how each app declares itself.

My podcast didn't start again after a stop.

Resuming is up to the podcast app itself. Apple Podcasts picks back up reliably; a few other apps don't. If yours doesn't, a tap on play in that app brings it back.

Why doesn't the car screen show the tour while my music is playing?

With Background music off, your music app keeps the car's Now Playing screen and steering-wheel controls — your music, your controls. During each narration, Turns shows its own screen with the stop's name and artwork, then hands back.

What does the Background music setting actually do?

On, Turns plays its own soft instrumental bed for the whole drive and owns the car's audio screen. Off, Turns stays out of the way: it plays nothing of its own and just speaks over — or briefly pauses — whatever you're listening to.
